LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - *N Sync member Lance Bass has signed on to serve as lead judge for NBC's upcoming four-episode series "The Search for the Most Talented Kid in America" and will be joined each week by two celebrity guest judges who will be named later.

Hosted by Mario Lopez ("The Other Half," "Saved by the Bell"), each hour episode will feature the individual talent of 12 kids between the ages of three and 15. A winner from each age division (3 to 7, 8 to 12, 13 to 15) will be picked by the trio of judges.

The three finalists will then fly to Los Angeles to compete for the a yet-to-be-announced cash prize."As you know you have to be 16 to be on 'American Idol,'" says NBC Entertainment President Jeff Zucker. "We say, 'Why wait?'"

Speaking of "American Idol," the NBC series will also include footage from auditions held in 14 cities across the country.

"The Search for the Most Talented Kid in America" premieres Friday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
